L’A is a special place, one of those places of the soul where you feel at home as soon as you arrive. We spent a quiet family weekend break there, playing in the swimming pool, taking walks, enjoying delicious food and wine. The resort is located within Tenuta la Badiola, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma area: nature and elegance are the words that best define it. Outside, nature is all around you, powerful and untouched; rows of vines and olive trees blend with the blue sea of Castiglione della Pescaia in the background: the smell of the sea fills the rooms. Inside, understated elegance and, thus, even more impressive.
The estate is part of the Terra Moretti Resort, which was taken over by the Moretti family in 2000. Major renovation works, under the supervision of architect and AD’s editor in chief Ettore Mocchetti, led to the reconstruction of all the ancient village’s buildings and to the conversion of the main villa, a historic residence, into L’Andana Resort, and the surrounding farms into Casa Badiola Tuscan Inn, opened in 2009.
Alain Ducasse fell in love with the project and entered into partnership with the Moretti family from 2004 to 2015. In 2016, when the Ducasse era came to an end, Chef Enrico Bartolini took over the kitchen: a fresh and genuine cuisine which, take my word for it, perfectly expresses the Italian and local culinary tradition without ever being predictable. The flawless and state-of-the-art Spa was the extra touch that made our vacation memorable, not to mention the long, lovely walks and bicycle rides at sunset. While Beppe and I relaxed in the sun or at the Spa, the kids splashed in the pool…
The food is worth a special mention: breakfast is exceptional; for lunch and dinner, either the one-Michelin-starred La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini, a contemporary gourmet restaurant, or La Villa, which offers a classic, more traditional menu prepared by the Chef’s brigade. And do yourself a great favour: on a particularly sunny day, enjoy a fantastic picnic in the shade of one of the estate’s ancient trees.
