It’s going to be a winter vibrant with… colors and patterns, details and ethnic touches! Here are my trends for the season.
Check
One year ago, it was only on coats… not it’s “allover”: on jackets, pants, skirts, dresses and blouses. Colorful and fluttering. Down the runways by Loewe and Sacai.
Moroccan pinstripe
Old ethnic-style striped cloths, rigorously retro-styled. Down the runway by Céline and Acne Studios.
Polka-dot
White, paired with blue, black and red… Fun, ironic and joyful. Down the runway by Giambattista Valli and Emporio Armani.
Velvet
Velvet is getting dandier by the year and, in 2018, it shows up on pyjama suits, evening robes and sumptuous evening gowns. By Alberta Ferretti, Genny and Temperlay London.
Feathers
They move along the border of coats and dresses in the slightest wind. They decorate shoes and embellish bags. Down the runway mostly by Prada.
Sporty
Forget about the one you used to wear at school. Today, the jumpsuit is a modern day suit, made from special fabrics and skins. Down the runway by Chloè, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney.
Knitwear
Soft, delicate, wrap-around, maxi. Knits become must-haves and come in all the shades of hazelnut. By Michael Kors, MaxMara, Jil Sander.
Lamé
Space missions on Earth. The dress? It’s sparkling: gold, bronze and silver. By Chanel and Dries Van Noten.
Waterproof
The trench-coat goes down the runway. In new volumes, shapes and sizes. Super oversized or pared down to the essentials, the perfect autumn coat. By Lanvin and Sportmax.
Fur coats
There is no compromise with this season’s fur coats: either short and super colorful or long with revers and basically in natural tones such as honey, camel, mud and chocolate. This winter’s trendiest fur coat is seventies-style, to be worn even over a sweatsuit. By Dries Van Noten and Loewe.
Coats
Dark-style if the coat is long, in napa and total black. But it can also be colored, either long or slightly above knee-length. By Cedric Charlier and Tod’s The Row.
Capes
Sleeveless, half-way between a poncho and a cloak, it’s one of the trends that designers have been bringing back for two years now: it makes us feel a bit like Lancelot’s Queen Guinevere, and a pinch of Middle Ages won’t do any harm! By Issay Miyake and Alberta Ferretti.
Down jackets
Oversized, very puffy, soft and super warm: the urban coat you can wear all through winter, even over a very ladylike outfit. By Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Vetements.
Shoes
High, over-the-knee boots, like those seen at Fendi’s show. Or lower, but strictly pointed or super squared. Shoes only with visible socks, perhaps in this winter’s hottest color: red. By Saint Laurent, Cèline, Prada.
Bags
Micro or macro? There are the mini shoulder bags with jeweled details, the maxi clutches or the evergreen duffle handbags. After last year’s double bags, here come the triple ones, same shape but different colors! By Dolce & Gabbana, Mulberry, Dries Van Noten.
Accessories
Fur, just a pinch, to make all winter outfits warmer: above all, big hats, but also pockets and sleeve cuffs on men’s coats. Never matching, always in different styles and length: earrings split and separate. The only thing they have in common is the maxi size. Always wear a pair of fifties-style, diva-like frames or in the most eccentric shapes. Coach, Marc Jacobs for hats; earrings by Dries Van Noten and Dolce & Gabbana; Gucci and Marni frames.
